This use-case will use massive amounts of historical and near real-time market data to allow for forecasting, systemic risk estimation and decision support for the finance industry stakeholders. In particular, the goal is to provide a radar for international trading opportunities and risk assessment, via capitalizing on:

  • Forecasting price swings of stocks, currencies, commodities and industrial goods, based on seasonal and historic market patterns, including sentiment analysis from social networks.

  • Systemic risk Prediction and early warning issuing, via analyzing, in real-time, inter-dependencies and correlations between specified products and trading instruments for the trader or industrial producer to establish and keep a balanced and risk-adjusted portfolio of assets or goods.

  • Decision support for investment opportunities via the identification of relative strengths and weaknesses of assets and goods at a given time (on hourly, daily and weekly basis). Undervalued assets or goods may provide a winning opportunity to invest in, while over-valued ones should perhaps be sold or avoided.

The tools for price forecasting, risk prediction and decision support will take advantage of the highly optimized algorithms for machine learning and complex event forecasting from WP6, as well algorithms for efficient, adaptive, approximate query processing from massive data streams from WP5 to achieve their objectives. Moreover, the use-case will be supported by a visualization tool, so as to assist human decision makers comprehend machine-generated results and facilitate evaluation. This use-case advances the state-of-the-art with a market-oriented mindset, aiming for far-reaching impact to key players in the global economy, and in particular, stakeholders in the finance sector, who may benefit by the novel tools developed in INFORE. comprehend machine-generated results and facilitate evaluation.
